HealthShare, which began September 1, 2007, is the result of years of work to provide affordable health insurance for the uninsured employed in Butler County. The program provides an alternative for those who may not be eligible or may not be able to afford traditional employer sponsored health plans. HealthShare is made possible through the combined efforts of Butler County, LifeSpan and HORAN. Together, we hope to build a healthy community on a foundation of basic, routine and preventive medical care.
Some important highlights of the program are:
• Eligibility - you must be working in Butler County AND premiums must be payroll deducted through your employer.
• Limitations - medical plans designed to cover routine, basic and preventive healthcare needs. This plan IS NOT intended to replace
your major medical policy and DOES NOT provide catastrophic benefits.
• No pre-existing condition exclusions.
• No medical underwriting.
• No network is required to receive benefits.
• Preventive care is covered.
• Prescriptions are discounted at specific pharmacies.
Currently the partners of the program, Butler County, LifeSpan, and HORAN, are working with local providers to develop an optional network for participants. This would allow participants to reduce or eliminate any balance due over limits of the coverage. Butler County Health Centers have already agreed to accept the fixed reimbursement for the program as payment in full for services. HORAN is in discussion with local hospitals in an effort to make similar announcements in the near future.
