PCORI Fee Update

 October 13 2015     Shelly Hodges-Konys
The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Fee is part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and is imposed on health insurers and plan sponsors of self-insured health plans. For policy and plan years ending on or after October 1, 2015, and before October 1, 2016, the applicable fee is $2.17 per employee per year. This is an increase from the prior year fee of $2.08. The PCORI fee supports clinical effectiveness research which is intended to assess the clinical effectiveness, risk and benefits of available medical treatments. Fees are reported on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 720 and apply to policy or plan years ending on or after October 1, 2012, and before October 1, 2019. Fee payments are due by July 31st of the year following the applicable plan year. For example, a fee for the plan year ending December 31, 2015, must be reported by July 31, 2016.
