HORAN’s Mike Lakin named to 2018 Class of Forty Under 40

Mike Lakin, Vice President of New Business Development at HORAN, is a Cincinnati Business Courier's 2018 Forty Under 40 Award recipient. This year’s class of 40 honorees will be recognized during a reception being held on September 18, 2018.

The Forty Under 40 award is given annually to young professionals since 1995, recognizing individuals for their accomplishments in shaping the community's future. The award emphasizes leadership and potential leadership as well as encompasses the work conducted in all areas of the community including business, politics, the arts, nonprofits, education health care or public service. Community involvement is a key factor taken into consideration when selecting the award winners. 

Mike began his career at HORAN over 15 years ago and has progressed from an entry level position as a Client Specialist to the Vice President of New Business Development and a partner in the firm. He has served in every position in the Group Health Benefits Department and excelled in each role he has held at HORAN. Mike has mastered each position, earned the respect of his peers and has become an acknowledged expert in corporate employee benefits.

He has made a significant contribution to HORAN's growth, especially over the last 10 years, with the firm expanding from Cincinnati into three other markets and the number of employees increasing from 60 to 144.

Corporate social responsibility is a core value at HORAN. Mike embraces that value and finds opportunities to leverage his professional skills for worthy causes. Recognized as a leader personally and professionally, Mike has served integral roles with the United Way of Greater Cincinnati Emerging Leaders Society, Bold Goals committee and the Cincinnati Board Internship Program, as well as a member of the board of directors for the Brighton Center.

Most recently, Mike served as the Chairman for the Good Scout Award 2018 Annual Luncheon for the Dan Beard Council, Boy Scouts of America. Over 1,000 people attended including many new attendees. Mike and his committee raised $530,824, surpassing their last year’s dollars raised by more than $100,000.

Mike has won several internal HORAN awards voted on by his peers at HORAN. In 2005, he won HORAN's Charlie Hustle Award which is given to the employee who has gone above and beyond in the areas of integrity, effort and ambition. In 2006, he and his service team won The Team Award. In 2016, he won the Gretzky Award for providing the most client referrals to his peers and co-workers for future sales opportunities.

Mike will join an alumni that includes colleagues Nick Reilly, President & Principal of HORAN Capital Advisors, (Class of 2013) and HORAN’s Dominic Franchini, Vice President, (Class of 2015), as a recipient of this prestigious award.

Mike is a proud graduate of Archbishop Moeller High School and Xavier University where Mike supports the All for One fundraising efforts for student athletes.
